International Stakeholders
Such partnership allows us to advance the development of technical adaptation instruments, to get access to
financial mechanisms as well as making sure the widest possible number of smallholder farmers benefit from the
insights and outcomes of the pilot cases.
AdapCC cooperates with various partner institutions at the regional and international levels in the countries
where we operate.
We are building a network of projects that develop instruments to identify adequate adaptation measures and to
transfer knowledge about how to implement them. AdapCC is committed to sharing its technical expertise and
lessons learnt with all partners. Part of this process involves cooperation with other international adaptation
projects. For example:
The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) is supporting the AdapCC
initiative with forecasting future climate scenarios in coffee growing areas in Latin America.
- The UK sustainable development charity
Forum for the Future is coordinating
the exploration of carbon financing models to help fund adaptation strategies.
- To promote adaptation to climate change in agriculture in Central America the
Regional Unit for Technical Assistance – RUTA is disseminating the AdapCC results
and instruments by realising a central america wide public campaign on climate change adaptation. Furthermore,
RUTA scales up the capacity building approach of the AdapCC project, applying the ROA process and seeks
sustainable financing mechanisms to support adaptation and mitigation measures.
Within the pilot regions, the project is cooperating with various regional institutions: Government
organisations to address political frameworks, scientific institutions to support the project with regional
climate data, and other development agencies and NGOs to share their networks and technical experiences to
advance the development of adaptation measures.
Together with the Tropical Agriculture Research and Higher
Education Centre (CATIE) we are carrying out a
capacity building programme for smallholder coffee producers in the Latin American pilot regions. Capacity
building to strengthen producers' capacity to cope with climate change was identified by all our pilot groups
as a key adaptation need. As all of them integrated training activities in their adaptation strategies, we
agreed about the development and implementation of a joint programme for all Latin American coffee producer
partners.
CATIE with its long-term research and education expertise in coffee production, climate change, and even carbon
sequestration is the perfect partner to run this initiative.
CIAT as second partner will integrate its expertise and knowledge according to modelling future climate impacts
on crop production.
