Capacity Building

Following the need for trainings on climate adaptation and the idea to develop a more holistic capacity building approach AdapCC contracted the scientific research and education institute CATIE (Centre for Investigation and Training on Tropical Agriculture) to design and implement a capacity building programme to adapt Latin American small-scale coffee production to climate change. CATIE and GTZ in cooperation with CIAT developed a one-week training seminar, which was realised in March 2009 in Matagalpa. 21 trainers were trained on the impacts of climate change on coffee production, the implementation of concrete adaptation measures at the farm level, the application of the ROA process, the carbon reduction potential of coffee farms and processing and the strategic planning of adaptation strategies. Among the participants were representatives from all three AdapCC pilot regions in Peru, México and Nicaragua as well as members of CAFENICA.
